PTZoptics 4K PTZ Camera Setup Guide for Auditoriums and Large Venues

PTZoptics cameras are the go-to choice for houses of worship, corporate auditoriums, university lecture halls, and broadcast productions. This guide covers everything from camera selection to network configuration and control setup.

Why PTZoptics for Large Venues

PTZoptics cameras solve the specific challenges of large-venue video capture:

  • Long zoom range — 12x to 30x optical zoom captures a speaker 80 feet away in sharp detail
  • Multiple outputs simultaneously — SDI, HDMI, USB, and IP streaming output at the same time from one camera
  • Dante AV-H audio networking — embed audio into the IP video stream without separate audio cabling
  • IP control — control camera pan, tilt, zoom over the network from any device
  • Affordable — broadcast-quality results at a fraction of traditional broadcast camera pricing

Choosing the Right PTZoptics Model

Model Zoom Best Use
PT12X-4K 12x optical Small auditoriums, lecture halls up to 50ft
PT20X-4K 20x optical Medium auditoriums, sanctuaries up to 100ft
PT30X-4K-G3 30x optical Large venues, arenas, broadcast up to 150ft+
PT12X-Link-4K (Dante) 12x optical AV-over-IP installations with Dante networking

Physical Installation

Mounting position

For a front-facing speaker setup, mount the camera at the back of the room elevated 10–14 feet. This angle gives a natural eye-level view of the speaker at the front. For audience capture, mount at the front corners elevated 8–12 feet angled back at the audience.

PTZoptics cameras ship with a standard camera mount and can be installed on wall mounts, ceiling mounts, or truss clamps using standard 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 threads.

Cabling

  • Power — 12V DC power supply included, or PoE+ (802.3at) via network switch
  • Video output — HDMI to switcher/encoder, or SDI for broadcast runs over 30 feet, or Cat5e/6 for IP streaming
  • Control — RS-232 serial, RS-485, or IP (recommended for new installs)

Network Configuration

IP control is the recommended method for all new PTZoptics installs.

  1. Connect camera to your network via ethernet
  2. PTZoptics default IP is 192.168.100.88 — access via browser to configure static IP on your network
  3. Download PTZoptics Camera Management Platform (CMP) for multi-camera management
  4. Set camera presets (positions) for speaker position, audience, wide shot, etc.

Control Options

Physical joystick — PTZoptics SuperJoy IP/Serial Controller connects via IP or RS-232 for traditional joystick PTZ control.

Software control — PTZoptics Camera Management Platform (CMP) controls all cameras from a PC or tablet over the network.

Streaming software — OBS, vMix, Wirecast, and Zoom all support PTZoptics IP cameras via RTSP stream or NDI.

Automation — PTZoptics cameras support HTTP CGI commands for integration with AMX, Crestron, QSC, and Extron control systems.

Streaming Setup

PTZoptics 4K cameras output RTSP streams that work with all major streaming platforms:

  • Access the camera web interface → Streaming settings
  • Set RTSP stream resolution (4K, 1080p60, 1080p30, 720p)
  • Copy the RTSP URL into your streaming software or video conferencing platform
  • For Zoom/Teams: add as an external RTSP camera source in the video settings

Frequently Asked Questions

Can PTZoptics cameras work with Microsoft Teams or Zoom?

Yes. PTZoptics cameras connect to Teams and Zoom via USB (plug-and-play for calls up to 1080p) or via IP/NDI for high-quality 4K streaming integration with a capture card.

What is Dante AV-H on PTZoptics cameras?

Dante AV-H is a standard for transmitting professional audio over standard IP networks. PTZoptics cameras with Dante AV-H embed audio into the camera's IP stream, eliminating separate audio cabling in complex AV-over-IP installations.

How many PTZoptics cameras can I control simultaneously?

The PTZoptics Camera Management Platform (CMP) supports up to 50 cameras on a single network. The SuperJoy controller manages up to 255 cameras via RS-485.
